Activate in the Classroom - Update!

Activate in the Classroom is being used in an ever-increasing number of schools throughout the UK and wider.
It is regularly being used for 10 minutes every morning and 5 minutes every afternoon in over 2000 schools, and very positive benefits are being reported. We even had one e-mail which explained that Santa's overweight reindeer in the Christmas play were doing Activate to get them fit for delivering presents on Christmas Eve!!!
Activate exercises are also being used at different times throughout the day to re-motivate pupils…
"I will use it if I have had to talk in front of a class for a long time because it breaks up their learning"
One head teacher wrote … "Teachers can find it more effective to spend 10 minutes doing Activate movements at the beginning of a lesson so children can concentrate better for the remaining 50 minutes."
The statistics as of December 2008 are the following:-
Over 450,000 children and over 15,000 teachers in over 2,000 schools are doing Activate.
If every teacher and every class consistently do Activate, that adds up to an extra 20,000,000 hours of high quality physical activity which contributes hugely towards fitness and control of obesity.

Positive Play and Val Sabin Publications is ahead of the game at YSTs largest schools conference

Leading educational PE and sports equipment supplier, Davies Sports, has teamed up with Val Sabin Publications and Positive Play to support their headline sponsorship of this year's School and Sport Partnerships' Conference 2008.
Now in its 3rd year, the School and Sport Partnerships' Conference, is firmly established as the highlight of the school sports calendar and draws together the network of School Sport's partnerships, National Governing Bodies and Local Education Authorities. Entitled 'Playing your Part in the Team', the conference recognised the work it takes to provide PE and sport for young people and explored these roles through five central themes; Leading, Curriculum, Volunteering and Coaching, Competition and Infrastructure.
As part of these themes, Davies Sports in conjunction with Positive Play hosted a networking table entitled, 'Activate in the classroom' with Neil Bangs. In this time Neil explained how an extra 75 minutes of quality physical activity each week can increase the physical fluency and automitised banks of movement for children. This networking session offered an opportunity to share ideas and discuss new initiatives and best practice amongst peers and professionals in the PE and sports arena.
In addition the Davies Sports dedicated demonstration area shared the work of Val Sabin Publications & Training. Visitors were able to see and test out their latest P.E. resources and speak to Val Sabin about their own sports partnerships.
